"I can't say enough good things about this book. Everything you could possibly want to know about the Earth is in this book. Even used, this book is a steal. The only thing I would add is the very latest information on the effect of sunspots & solar flares on Earth's climate, and how the theory on global warming is believed to be wrong. This book turned out to be HUGE with information. I would give it ten stars if it were possible!"

The Earth Through Time Harold L Levin 9781118254677 Books Reviews

  • I had never studied geology beyond earth science in eighth grade. The purchase of this book was an experiment. 80 pages in, I love it. I have been having so much fun thinking about the places I have traveled where ancient bedrock was exposed, visiting places in the San Francisco area specifically to look at rocks to see if I can identify rocks and minerals described in the textbook, and thinking about the connection between the rocks and prehistoric events and conditions. I find myself looking through photos of places that I've been then searching the web for "geologic map of abc" in order to understand what I was looking at. I was able to pinpoint one location where I was staring at Paleoproterozoic Era rock.
  • I can't say enough good things about this book. I would give it ten stars if it were possible!
  • As a lay person, I have a great interest in early Earth history and have read a number of books on the subject (mainly by taking them out from the library). But this book is one of the best (for me the best). This book makes a complex subject easy to understand because it's so well written. It covers everything you need to know. Lots of charts, pictures, time lines, etc. When you finish, you don't have questions still lingering - you feel very satisfied and knowledgeable - you don't feel still wanting - it covers the topic thoroughly. For those seeking to read a very good book on Earth history (both geologically and biologically), this book is for you - you will not be disappointed. (What a bargain for a $44.90 paperback!)
  • Ever read a textbook that didn't hurt your face and your feelings??? Try this one!! It's still pretty technical, but full of interesting information that'll keep you saying, "Oh? Aha! You don't say!"
  • We used this book for a Historical Geology course. I really enjoyed the text, and thought the illustrations and photos were very helpful. This has been one of the better textbooks I've had to use in my geology program.
  • I have an amateurs interest in geology and have attended courses at a local college, have bought other books in geology but this book by far gives me the greatest insight to the wonders of time both in rocks and in living things. The later versions are much more expensive than this used textbook.
  • Great!
  • I've never seen so many maybe, could be, might have, and probably statements in a textbook. That being said, the writing isn't terrible.
